Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in a middle-class Maratha family. His father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was a theater artist and also a singer. Lata's first name was Hema, but father Deenanath Mangeshkar, influenced by Latika, a character in the play 'Bhav Bandhan', changed her daughter's name to Lata.
Lata Mangeshkar started singing and acting in her father Dinanath Mangeshkar's musical plays when she was only five years old.
On her very first day in school, Lata Mangeshkar started teaching music to other children and when the teacher stopped her, Lata felt so bad that she stopped going to school. However, some sources claim that since she went to school with her younger sister Asha, this was objected to by the school, so she dropped out.
When Lata Mangeshkar was 13 years old, her father Dinanath Mangeshkar died of a heart attack. After this, the burden of running the family came on Lata. He fought hard to establish himself in the world of music in the 1940s. He sang the first song in 1942 in the Marathi film 'Kiti Hasal' but this film could not be released.

When Lata Mangeshkar was 33 years old, she fell seriously ill in early 1962. Then the doctors told that he was given slow poison in the food. She struggled between life and death in the hospital for three days. Even after coming from the hospital, she remained on the bed for three months. His body was then broken by poison. Immediately after this incident, his cook left the house and ran away.
In 1963, when Lata Mangeshkar sang the song 'Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon' in memory of the soldiers who died in the Indo-China war of 1962, the country's Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was in tears. In 1974 she became the first Indian personality to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
